My Role as an Educator
Teaching Experience
As a teacher with two years of experience, I am eager to use my work in special education to level the playing field for all learners in general education. Currently, I am finishing my master’s in secondary education at Northern State University. I will graduate with the required endorsements and licensure in May 2025.
Technology has played an important role in my personal and professional life. I have always embraced new ideas, so I like looking out for apps and technology that can enhance the capabilities of all students. I enjoy working with kids who are trying out coding or robotics for the first time, and I like working with kids who are using apps like Canva to make their creativity flourish. I have introduced audio and video editing to kids, podcasting, and graphic design concepts to help them make the most out of the technology that's available to them. I have had the pleasure of working within the Harrisburg School District where all students have access to iPads and other technology.
My teaching style is highly influenced by my time spent working as an aide in special education. I have utilized many concepts such as scaffolding, behavioral intervention, and relationship building to guide my journey into general education. I believe in leveling the playing field for all students where they are challenged and nurtured for growth in the classroom. I have worked with students who need to find that resilience and motivation to grow, and I have been successful in that endeavor. I do my best to lead kids, but I also acknowledge that they need to learn for themselves. However, I do not give up on students even when they are challenging.
I like to use modern and real-life scenarios for connecting kids to their lessons. I take great care in making lessons that are unique in how they present new ideas and concepts. Some of these activities include having students create graphics or illustrations that connect their lives to stories. Also, I have worked with kids to make rap battles between historic world leaders. Another lesson involved students creating a social media post in-character for a novel study. And I have worked on lessons that required stop-motion animation or other forms of video production. I am always eager to utilize technology that keeps kids interested and engaged in lessons.
